Proactive monitoring and maintenance

Proactive monitoring and maintenance with RMM: automated Windows and third-party patching, alerts on disks, backups and antivirus, and monthly reporting.

In short

Proactive monitoring and maintenance means an agent on every computer and server reports its health to a remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform, patches Windows and common applications on a schedule, and raises alerts when disks fill, backups fail or antivirus stops. Dig IT Solutions runs this for every managed client so problems are found before staff notice them.

When you need this

Signs this is the right conversation

  • We only find out a backup has been failing when we need to restore something.
  • Windows updates are left to individuals, so half the laptops are months behind.
  • A server disk filled up overnight and the whole office stopped.
  • We don't know what state our estate is in or how many devices we even have.
  • Our provider says they monitor us but we've never seen a report.

Scope

What we deliver

  • 01

    RMM agent on every endpoint

Laptops, desktops and servers run a lightweight agent that reports hardware, software, update status and health to our management platform.

  • 02

    Automated patching

Windows updates and common third-party applications such as browsers, PDF readers and collaboration tools are approved, tested and deployed on a schedule, with reboots planned outside working hours where possible.

  • 03

Alerting on the things that hurt

Thresholds for disk space, failed backups, antivirus or EDR status, service failures and offline servers raise alerts that go straight to the helpdesk queue.

  • 04

    Scheduled maintenance

Routine housekeeping such as disk clean-up, log rotation, firmware checks and licence audits handled at agreed times.

  • 05

    Asset and warranty register

A live inventory of devices, specifications, ages and warranty dates, which feeds directly into replacement planning and procurement.

  • 06

    Monthly reporting

A plain-English report covering patch compliance, alerts raised, backup success, device health and recommendations for the coming month.

Outcomes

What you get out of it

  • Failures are caught during working hours before they become outages.
  • Patch compliance is measured, not assumed.
  • Replacement decisions are based on real device data.
  • You can show insurers, auditors and clients that systems are maintained.

FAQ

Questions we are asked

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call 020 8482 4020 or 01992 939 365 and ask an engineer.
What does proactive IT monitoring actually mean?
It means software agents continuously check the state of your devices and servers and report back to a central platform. Rules on that platform raise alerts when something crosses a threshold: a disk over 90 per cent full, a backup job that didn't complete, an antivirus service that stopped. Engineers then act on the alert, often before anyone in your business has noticed a problem.
Is your monitoring 24/7?
Automated monitoring runs around the clock: agents keep reporting and alerts keep being generated at night and at weekends. Those alerts are worked by our engineers during the support hours in your agreement. We don't claim a 24/7 staffed desk, because that isn't what most businesses of up to 250 people need or want to pay for. If you need out-of-hours cover for a specific system, we can discuss options.
What is RMM?
RMM stands for remote monitoring and management. It is the platform an IT provider uses to see the health of every managed device, push out patches and scripts, run inventory and connect for support. It works alongside remote access tools such as Splashtop, which we use for interactive support sessions. Together they let us maintain devices without visiting each one.
Does patching cover applications as well as Windows?
Yes. Windows updates are the foundation, but many attacks target out-of-date browsers, PDF readers, Java runtimes and similar applications. Our RMM platform patches a catalogue of common third-party software as well as Windows. Line-of-business applications with their own update processes are handled in agreement with you and the software vendor.
Will monitoring slow down our computers?
No. The agent is small and sits idle most of the time, sending a brief status report at intervals. Patch installation uses more resources, which is why we schedule it for evenings or agreed windows and stagger reboots. If a device is genuinely slow, the monitoring data usually tells us why, such as a failing disk or low memory.
