In short

Dig IT Solutions is the outsourced IT department for small and growing businesses across Hertfordshire, west Essex and London. For firms of up to 250 staff with no internal IT, we provide a helpdesk, on-site engineers, Microsoft 365 with MFA, endpoint protection, tested backups, networks and phones for a predictable monthly fee. It suits startups scaling up, local firms and SMEs opening a second office.

Who this is for: Owner-managed and investor-backed businesses of up to 250 staff with no IT team of their own: professional services, wholesale and distribution, creative and marketing agencies, engineering and consultancy firms, and startups moving out of a shared workspace into their first real premises. Our contact is the managing director, finance director, operations manager or the office manager who handles IT by default.

Sector pressures

What keeps small & growing businesses up at night

  1. 01

Growing from 10 to 50 staff breaks the informal set-up

The arrangement that worked at ten people, a friend who does IT and laptops bought as needed, stops working somewhere around twenty. Passwords are shared, nobody knows who has admin rights, and the only documentation is in one person's head. Growth exposes all of it, usually on the week a key person is away.

  2. 02

    Microsoft 365 sprawl

Licences paid for and unused, half the company as global admins, MFA switched on for some and not others, files scattered between OneDrive, Teams and an old shared drive, and mailboxes for people who left in 2023. Most growing firms are paying for Microsoft 365 without getting the security it already includes.

  3. 03

Cyber insurance questionnaires and customer due diligence

Insurers now ask whether you have MFA, EDR and offline backups before quoting, and larger customers send supplier security questionnaires that expect Cyber Essentials. Recent GOV.UK Cyber Security Breaches Surveys have found that around half of UK businesses reported a breach or attack in the previous twelve months, so the questions are not going away.

  4. 04

New starters who need to work on day one

A new hire arriving to no laptop, no email and no idea how to get on the Wi-Fi costs a week of productivity and a poor first impression. Leavers are the mirror image: accounts still active months later, with access to customer data and finance systems. Both need a process rather than a reminder on someone's to-do list.

  5. 05

Moving office or opening a second site

The first proper office, or the second site, brings internet lead times of weeks, cabling that has to go in before the desks, Wi-Fi that must cover the whole floor, and phones that need to move to VoIP before the PSTN switch-off in January 2027. Left to the last fortnight, these become the reason the move slips.

What we do

How we support you

  • 01

A helpdesk and engineers who answer

Remote support via Splashtop for everyday faults and on-site engineers from Hoddesdon for anything that needs hands, across Hertfordshire, west Essex and London. Staff get a number and a portal, and the MD gets one accountable team. See managed it support service.

  • 02

Microsoft 365 tidied, secured and right-sized

A licence review that stops paying for empty seats, MFA and conditional access for every user, admin rights cut back to the people who need them, and a sensible SharePoint and Teams structure that replaces the old shared drive.

  • 03

    Security your insurer will recognise

Endpoint Detection and Response on every device, email security with DMARC, patching through our remote monitoring and management platform, and security awareness training, which together answer most of a cyber insurance questionnaire and prepare you for Cyber Essentials.

  • 04

Backups that have actually been restored

Microsoft 365 backup for mailboxes, OneDrive and SharePoint, local backup to a Synology appliance for any on-site server or NAS, and cloud copies off-site, with test restores reported so you know recovery works before you need it.

  • 05

Networks, Wi-Fi, cabling, phones and CCTV for the new office

UniFi or Cisco Meraki networking, structured cabling installed before the desks arrive, Wi-Fi that covers every corner, 8x8 VoIP and UniFi Protect CCTV, delivered as one project. Our Google review from Garry Kousoulou describes exactly this kind of whole-office job.

  • 06

Starters, leavers, hardware and a roadmap

New-starter and leaver forms through the client portal, HP and Dell laptops procured, imaged and delivered ready to work, and an annual IT roadmap and budget from our consultancy team so growth is planned rather than reacted to.

Compliance and expectations

  • Cyber Essentials

The NCSC's baseline certification against five controls: firewalls, secure configuration, access control, malware protection and patching. It is the most common requirement in supplier questionnaires and some public-sector contracts, and the controls are the same ones we deploy as standard.

    NCSC Cyber Essentials
  • UK GDPR and the ICO

Every business holds staff and customer personal data and must protect it proportionately, know where it lives, and be able to report a breach within 72 hours. Managed devices, MFA, backups and a leaver process are the practical controls the ICO expects a small business to have.

    Information Commissioner's Office
  • NCSC Small Business Guide

The NCSC publishes plain-English guidance for small businesses covering backups, malware, devices, passwords and phishing. Our standard build for a growing firm follows it, which makes conversations with insurers and customers considerably easier.

What clients say about working with us

“Vince is the most dedicated IT professional I've ever had the pleasure of working with. His business has been running a long time so they really know what they're doing; they have systems and procedures in place and he stays ahead of the game when it comes to the latest technology. From fixing a broken computer screen to completely networking my offices. Highly recommend him. If there was a six out of five I would give it.”

Switching to us

How the handover works

Switching a growing business usually means untangling an informal set-up as much as replacing a provider. We start with an IT health check to record every device, account, licence, subscription and login, then document it so it no longer lives in one person's head. If there is an outgoing provider we run in parallel through handover, migrate outside your busiest days, and give staff a short, plain briefing on what changes. The step-by-step process and a checklist are at our switching IT provider guide.

FAQ

Small & Growing Businesses: questions we are asked

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call 020 8482 4020 or 01992 939 365 and ask an engineer.
Does a business with 10 staff need IT support?
At ten people you already depend on email, shared files, a network and several cloud apps, and one person is probably keeping it all going alongside their real job. Managed IT support at this size is less about a helpdesk and more about not having a single point of failure: MFA, backups, patching and a documented set-up. It is typically cheaper than the first bad week of downtime.
What does outsourced IT support include for a small business?
A helpdesk with remote and on-site engineers, monitoring and patching of every device, Microsoft 365 administration and security, endpoint protection, email security, backups with test restores, and starter and leaver handling. Networks, Wi-Fi, phones, CCTV and hardware procurement are available from the same team, and consultancy covers budgets and office moves. In short, everything an internal IT department would do, without the salary.
How much does IT support cost for a small business?
Managed IT support is typically priced per user or per device per month, and the figure depends on headcount, whether you run any servers, and the level of security and backup you need. Our indicative per-device figures are published on our pricing page, and the calculator at the IT support cost calculator gives you an estimate for your own business in a couple of minutes, with no sales call required.
Do we need to back up Microsoft 365?
Yes. Microsoft keeps the service running but does not promise to recover a file deleted three months ago, a mailbox from an employee removed in error, or SharePoint data encrypted by ransomware. A separate Microsoft 365 backup, restored on a schedule to prove it works, is inexpensive per user and is the thing that turns a bad day into a short one.
Can you help us pass a cyber insurance questionnaire or get Cyber Essentials?
Yes. Most questionnaires ask about MFA, endpoint protection, backups, patching and staff training, which are the controls in our standard build. We review the questionnaire with you, close the gaps, and provide the evidence. For Cyber Essentials we prepare the environment and support your self-assessment submission, and the same work usually improves your insurance position at the next renewal.
We are moving into a new office. Can you handle the IT?
Yes, and the earlier you involve us the better. Internet lines can take weeks to install, cabling has to go in before furniture, and Wi-Fi, phones, printers and CCTV all depend on the network being ready. We plan the move backwards from your date, order connectivity early, and set the new office up so staff arrive to working desks. See new office IT setup for how the project runs.
