vCIO and IT strategy

vCIO and IT strategy services: quarterly reviews, a 12 to 36 month roadmap, budgeting, a renewals calendar, a risk register and board-level reporting.

In short

A vCIO (virtual chief information officer) gives your leadership team a senior IT voice without a full-time hire: quarterly reviews, a 12 to 36 month roadmap, an annual IT budget, a renewals calendar, a risk register and reporting the board can read. Dig IT Solutions provides this alongside managed support, so strategy and delivery come from the same accountable team.

When you need this

Signs this is the right conversation

  • IT decisions get made in a panic when something breaks or expires.
  • We have no idea what we should be spending on IT next year.
  • Licences and contracts auto-renew before anyone reviews them.
  • The board asks about cyber risk and I don't have a clear answer.
  • Our provider fixes things but never tells us what we should be doing.

Scope

What we deliver

  • 01

    Quarterly business reviews

A structured meeting covering support performance, security posture, projects, risks and what's coming up, with actions tracked between sessions.

  • 02

    12 to 36 month roadmap

Planned projects, replacements and upgrades sequenced against business priorities, growth plans and end-of-life dates.

  • 03

    Annual IT budget

A costed view of support, licences, hardware refresh, projects and contingency, presented so finance can plan rather than react.

  • 04

    Renewals calendar

Every licence, warranty, domain, connectivity contract and support agreement with its renewal date, notice period and a review point before it rolls over.

  • 05

    Risk register

Technical, security, supplier and people risks rated and owned, with mitigations tracked and reported.

  • 06

    Board-level reporting

A one or two page summary for directors, covering what matters commercially and avoiding jargon.

Outcomes

What you get out of it

  • IT spending that is planned a year ahead.
  • No more surprise renewals or emergency purchases.
  • Directors who can answer questions about IT and cyber risk.
  • Projects delivered in a sensible order.

FAQ

Questions we are asked

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call 020 8482 4020 or 01992 939 365 and ask an engineer.
What does a vCIO do?
A vCIO provides the strategic part of an IT director's role on a part-time basis: understanding the business plan, translating it into technology priorities, setting a roadmap and budget, managing risk and reporting to leadership. They don't fix laptops. In our model the vCIO works with the engineers who support you, so recommendations are grounded in what your systems actually look like.
Do we need a vCIO if we already have managed IT support?
Managed support keeps things working day to day. A vCIO looks 12 to 36 months ahead, which busy support relationships often don't. If you're growing, facing compliance demands, planning an office move or merger, or simply want IT spend to be predictable, the strategic layer earns its keep. Many clients start with support and add vCIO time as they grow.
How often do we meet?
Quarterly is the usual rhythm: enough to review the previous quarter, adjust the roadmap and prepare for the next, without becoming another standing meeting nobody values. Around major projects, budgets or incidents we meet more often. Between reviews you have a named contact and the roadmap, budget and risk register are kept up to date as things change.
Can you present to our board or investors?
Yes. Part of the service is producing a short, plain-English summary of IT and cyber posture, risks, spend and plans that directors can read in a few minutes, and attending board or management meetings when needed. Investors, lenders and larger clients increasingly ask for this kind of evidence, and it's easier to produce continuously than to assemble in a rush.
How is the vCIO service priced?
As a fixed monthly retainer for an agreed number of days or hours per quarter, sized to your organisation. It can be bundled with managed support or provided to businesses with in-house IT teams who need senior direction. Projects arising from the roadmap are quoted separately so you always see the strategy and the spend distinctly. Contact us at the contact page to discuss scope.
