Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 migration

Microsoft 365 migration from Google Workspace, on-premise Exchange, another tenant or POP/IMAP hosting: phased cut-over, mail flow, DNS and staff comms.

In short

A Microsoft 365 migration moves your email, calendars, contacts and files from your current platform (Google Workspace, an on-premise Exchange server, another Microsoft 365 tenant, or basic POP/IMAP hosting) into a properly configured Microsoft 365 tenant. Dig IT Solutions plans the cut-over in phases, manages mail flow and DNS, and keeps staff informed so the switch is uneventful.

When you need this

Signs this is the right conversation

  • Our email is on an old hosted package and it keeps going down.
  • We're merging with another company and need everyone in one tenant.
  • Our Exchange server is out of support and nobody wants to touch it.
  • We tried Google Workspace and our clients and accountants all use Microsoft.
  • We can't afford to lose email history or be offline for a day.

Scope

What we deliver

  • 01

    Discovery and planning

Mailbox sizes, shared mailboxes, distribution lists, file shares, domains, devices and line-of-business integrations mapped before anything moves.

  • 02

    Tenant build

Licences, security baseline (MFA, Conditional Access, Defender), SharePoint structure and Exclaimer signatures configured before users arrive.

  • 03

    Staged data migration

Mail, calendars and contacts pre-synchronised in the background, with a final delta pass at cut-over so nothing is lost.

  • 04

    Mail flow and DNS cut-over

MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and autodiscover records changed at an agreed time, usually out of hours, with the old system kept available briefly.

  • 05

    Device and Outlook reconfiguration

Profiles updated on PCs, Macs and phones, remotely where possible and on-site where needed.

  • 06

    Staff communication and support

Clear instructions before, during and after, plus a floorwalking or helpdesk surge on the first working day.

Outcomes

What you get out of it

  • Email history, calendars and files arrive intact.
  • Minimal disruption, typically limited to a re-sign-in.
  • A tenant that is secure from day one, not hardened later.
  • One provider accountable for the outcome.

Questions we are asked

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call 020 8482 4020 or 01992 939 365 and ask an engineer.
What is a Microsoft 365 migration?
It is the process of moving your organisation's email, calendars, contacts and often files into Microsoft 365 from wherever they are now. It includes building and securing the tenant, copying the data, switching the domain's mail delivery over, reconfiguring devices and supporting staff through the change. Done properly it is planned in phases and the actual switch is a short, controlled event.
Can you migrate from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365?
Yes. Gmail, Google Calendar, Contacts and Drive can all be migrated. Mail and calendars move with Microsoft's own migration tooling or a specialist tool, and Drive content is mapped into OneDrive and SharePoint with permissions reviewed. The main planning points are shared drives, Google-format documents that need converting, and staff who have only used Gmail and need a short Outlook introduction.
How long does a Microsoft 365 migration take?
For a business of up to 250 people, plan on a few weeks from kick-off to cut-over, with most of that time spent on discovery, tenant setup and background data copying. The switch itself is usually one evening or a weekend. Larger mailboxes, multiple domains, tenant-to-tenant moves and complex file shares extend the timeline. We give you a dated plan after discovery rather than a guess.
Will we lose emails during the migration?
No, provided it is planned properly. Historic mail is copied ahead of the cut-over while the old system stays live, then a final synchronisation catches anything that arrived in between. During the DNS change, mail may take a short while to route to the new system, but it queues rather than disappearing. We keep the old system accessible for a period afterwards as a safety net.
What is a tenant-to-tenant migration?
It is moving users, mailboxes and SharePoint content from one Microsoft 365 organisation to another, typically after a merger, acquisition or divestment. It is more involved than a hosted-email migration because both sides are already Microsoft 365, and a domain can only exist in one tenant at a time. Planning the domain move, Teams content and permissions is the bulk of the work.
